Conformance reports and accessibility statements

Updated 2026-07-26 · 7 minute read

Complaudax produces two kinds of document from a site's real audit history, on the Reports tab of any site. Both are generated from the ledger and the manual checklist as they stand at that moment, so a report is a dated record rather than a claim about the future.

The conformance report

An internal and client-facing record of the evaluation. It covers how the audit was carried out, how many pages and audits it draws on, which detection engine version was used, every open issue with its severity and the criterion it fails, a criterion by criterion status table aligned to EN 301 549 clause 9, and the manual checklist results with your notes.

The overall status is derived, not asserted. It reads Partially conformant while open issues or failed manual checks remain, Evaluation in progress while criteria are still untested, and Fully conformant only when nothing is outstanding across both the automated ledger and the manual checklist.

Generate it with Generate conformance report. It is written as a tagged PDF and stored on the site so you can hand the same file over again later.

Accessibility statements

A statement is the public-facing page a site is often expected to publish, naming the standard it aims for, the known barriers, and how to report a problem. Complaudax ships one template per jurisdiction:

  • EU, framed around the European Accessibility Act and EN 301 549.
  • UK, framed around the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.
  • Canada, framed around AODA expectations.
  • US, framed around the ADA and Section 508.

Pick the jurisdiction, press Generate statement, and edit the result to match the client's own commitments before publishing. A statement is a declaration the site owner makes, so it should never go out unread. What regulators look for is covered in what an accessibility statement needs to say.

Branding on the Agency plan

On the Agency plan, every generated document carries the logo and brand colour set in Settings, Company. Free and Solo produce the same content without the branding. Nothing about the audit itself changes between plans.

Agency workspaces can turn any generated report into a branded web page for a client who would rather open a link than a PDF attachment. Use Create web link next to a report. The link is unguessable, and you choose whether it expires.

The shared page reads from a redacted snapshot taken when the link is created. It shows the report-level picture: status, counts by severity, criterion table, and open findings. It deliberately leaves out CSS selectors, contact emails, and page content, so a link forwarded beyond its intended reader still cannot be used as a map of the client's weak points. Revoke a link at any time and the page stops resolving.

Keeping the documents honest

Three habits keep a report defensible. Re-run audits after fixes so fixed reflects verification rather than intention. Work through the manual checklist, because a report full of untested criteria is transparent about that. And leave partial-coverage warnings in place instead of re-running until they disappear, so the reader knows which frames were never reached.

For the standard the criterion table is aligned to, see EN 301 549, the standard behind the EAA, and for what the documents look like end to end, see conformance reports and statements.

Common questions

Do reports cost extra?

No. Conformance reports and jurisdiction statements are included on every plan, including Free. The Agency plan adds your logo and brand colour, plus shareable web links.

Are the PDFs accessible themselves?

They are generated as tagged PDFs following the PDF/UA-1 variant, so headings, tables, and reading order are exposed to assistive technology. Shipping an inaccessible accessibility report would be a poor look.

Does a conformance report make my client's site compliant?

No. It documents what was tested, what was found, what was fixed, and what a person reviewed. Conformance is a property of the site and the evidence behind it, not of any document or tool.

Can I revoke a shared link after sending it?

Yes. Revoke it from the reports tab and the public page stops resolving immediately. You can also set an expiry when the link is created.

What is in the shared web version that is not in the PDF?

The web version carries less, not more. It is a redacted snapshot: report-level findings and status, without CSS selectors, contact emails, or page content.
